Mindfulness Exercise 1 ~ Sensory Questions
This exercise is great when experiencing overwhelm, or just wanting to reset and find calm during the day.
I like to take a seat, outside your house if possible, particularly if you have some form of nature available. Sit and do three deep cleansing breaths, extend the exhale longer than the inhale, so breath in for 4 counts and breath out for 6 counts. This extension of the exhale puts our body into the parasympathetic nervous system state, or rest and digest, bringing us back to homeostasis and calm when we are deregulated. After the cleansing breaths, take not of one thing you can see, then one thing you can hear, one thing you can touch, and one thing you can smell. Really be present for each different thing. Sit and relax and take your time.
